A Focus On Security

Chief Deputy Clerk Nikki Painter oversees an operation that involves two dozen County employees to oversee the secure processing of the ballot boxes from the precinct workers to the Commission meeting room where the boxes are opened and the ballots are counted. Two poll workers from each precinct hand-deliver the sealed ballot box to the Clerk’s team, who then escort the box into the Commission meeting room where it is opened and tallied.

The printed ballots are retained and secured until the official election canvass by the County Commission on Monday, November 9. As part of the official canvass, the Commission will review all provisional ballots and certify the official results to be reported to the West Virginia Secretary of State.
